What happened to being able to “Multi-Task”?

His Royal Highness, Señor Hopey-Changey has announced he must resign from the lame-duck Senate to focus on his transition.

President-elect Barack Obama said Thursday he’s resigning from the Senate, effective Sunday.

He is calling his four-year term “one of the highest honors and privileges” of his life.

While I know this is not unexpected nor entirely unreasonable, doesn’t it strike you as pretty ironic?  After 143 active days in the Senate, the Mighty One felt it was A.O.K. to ditch out on his responsibilities to serve his constituents as the Junior Senator from Illinois to campaign full-time for Demi-God-in-Chief.  Approximately 2 years (and $338,600 in salary) later worth of pounding the pavement whilst neglecting Senate business, when there is 60 odd-days left in a lame-duck session of a do-nothing Congress, NOW he MUST resign?!?  As if he was ever there in the first place.

…oh, Fox News, last time I looked a US Senator’s term was 6 years.  (I know, I am nitpicking, but abject BS makes me cranky.)
